The “Summer Academy for Children and Students” is organized by the National Academy of Art (NAA), “Theory and Practice of Education in the Arts” academic course, “St. Pimen Zografski” foundation at the NAA and with the support of the European Program “Youth in Action”. 

This is the 4th edition of the academy, which is held in the ateliers of the NAA, “Shipka” 1 street, in the period 1.08-31.08 from 9:00 to 18:00 hours. For the 4th consecutive year, “St. Pimen Zografski” foundation at the NAA is organizing the “Summer Academy for Children and Students”. In August, children of all ages will experience the unique atmosphere in the ateliers of the NAA. With the support and guidance from students and teachers at the Academy various activities will be organized, such as lectures, workshops, presentations, visits to galleries and museums, as well as numerous team and creativity assignments. The complete works of art – paintings, sculptures, graphics, ceramics, textile, illustrations, etc., will be conformed to the individual skills of the children, following the educational methodology in arts for each age group.

The Summer Academy for Children is a long-term project of “St. Pimen Zografski” foundation at the NAA and is aimed at children and pupils between 6 and 15 years of age. The creative tasks and activities will be conformed to their personal abilities and interests. Every working day during August, from 9.00-13.00 and from 14.00-18.00 hours in the ateliers and the courtyard of the NAA the young artists will have opportunities to paint, experiment and have fun under the guidance and with the support of students (both bachelors and masters) from the Academy, who have completed “Theory and Practice of Education in the Arts” as a second degree. The activities that are organized create opportunities for the participants to gain skills in the following artistic areas: academic, experimental, outdoor painting, visiting museums and galleries, and happening. The closing of the Summer Academy is marked by an exhibition – happening at the “Academia” gallery at the NAA. The exhibits will include some of the finest achievements of the participants in “Summer Academy 2013”. The participants will also be awarded with diplomas; there will be prizes and gifts.  

For the first time the “Summer Academy” project will include a new element in its program, called “Together”. This sub-program gives an opportunity to children from underprivileged families to participate in the activities under the guidance of qualified specialists. “Together” is financed by the European program “Youth in Action”.

The opening of the “Summer Academy” is on 1st August at 13:00h in the courtyard of the NAA,”Shipka” 1 str., and will be marked by the happening “The House of Museums”.
